This month, even though it is summer and most people are out of town, we have had quite a few adoptions!
First we had Lacy, who is a golden retriever. Lacy was a "breeding" dog and for the first two years of her life was mostly kept in a crate. When we receive her she was a mess! She wouldn't come out from under the dining room table at her foster home, and when she did come out she would do her "business" right next to the table! She was afraid of men and barely tolerated other dogs. When she left her foster home, after 6 months of working with her, she went to her forever home, and was GREAT! Her new family, love her and even though she has some quirks, they are willing to continue working with her. Before she left her foster home she was swimming in the pool, playing with the other dogs, housebroken and sleeping under the table! Well she did come a long way, but eventually she will sleep in her new bed! Her new master is 8 years old and she adores him.
Then there is Willy Wonka. He won the heart of his forever Mom before she even met him! She fell in love with his picture and as they say a picture IS worth a thousand words! He was even better in person and he fell in love with his new Mom immediately!
As for Ariel, well she had been with us for a while. She is a wire haired terrier who maybe isn't the "cute" little girl everyone wanted but there was this really nice lady who spent DAYS looking for her new forever friend. Distraught and sad because she couldn't find the one she wanted she called us looking for a "small" female. Well she met Ariel, who isn't very small but isn't very big, but like the porridge in the story she was "just right"!!!
We also adopted Elvis the Basset Hound. His new family met him accidently at a vet's office. He was there as a visitor and they were there asking about finding a dog to adopt. BANG another match. He is now called Bailey!
And today we adopted Becky a small wire hired terrier mix. Becky was full of fleas and had an eye infection. She is also allergic to fleas, which is why she had lost some her hair. When Becky's new forever Mom met her, she fell in love with her! Becky is well mannered, housebroken, sweet and loving. When Becky left with her new Mom, she didn't even say goodbye! That is what we hope for!!
Samsung a Sheba Enu was seen on Petfinder, which is associated to our website. His forever family had been looking for a Sheba Enu for a long time but hadn't found what they were looking for, until Samsung came along! He was adopted as soon as they met him!
We also had Dixie and her 7 puppies! They were from an abuse case. When they were found they were sharing a shed with 50 gallon drums and laying in their own waste! After many baths and good care all the puppies were adopted to their forever homes. They were almost housebroken when they left to their respective homes and we have been told that they are now fully housebroken! They were only 8 weeks old when they left their foster Mom, who cried after each dog left. Dixie, the puppie's mom, is heartworm positive and after her treatment is finished she will go to her forever home, whom has been patiently waiting for her forever friend!!
All in all this has been one very successful month for Safe Haven Animal Rescue of Fl. Inc.!
